Rachel, Hua Dan of Chinese Opera

Rachel said to me she loves portrait and she is a big fan of Chinese Opera.

When she was young, she used to stay in a Kampung. She was from a poor family and life was not easy for her.

There was a Taoist temple near to her house. And on special and rare occasions there were plays of Chinese Opera for couple days at the temple.

Rachel would stay from the beginning of the play till the end for few days. Spending a whole day watching Chinese Opera would make her forget the unpleasant experience she had and make her happy.

So when she was a little girl, she always fantasied to be a Hua Dan, the young lively female character portrayed in Chinese Opera. She believed that the make up on the face and the performance could make the audience happy, regardless of how he or she as the performer feels within.

Rachel always wanted a Hua Dan portrait of herself. Then, her dream came true.
