Love for Melaka with Kana & Shu

Seldom had I met a Japanese couple with such an affection for Melaka. Meet Kana & Shu!

Their story began in Tokyo of Japan, where they met and married. Kana moved to Kuala Lumpur for work last year, and a month later before the shoot, Shu joined her there, to live and work in Malaysia.

With a deep appreciation for Peranakan culture, they chose to have their couple’s portrait taken in Melaka, even though it was some time after their wedding in Japan. They stumbled upon a charming, old-world hotel tucked away in the heritage city, which I as a Malaccan, did not even know existed. Inside, it was a treasure trove of historical relics, each corner telling a story of the past and perfectly setting the stage for their Peranakan-themed adventure.

It was hot season of Malaysia and a scorching morning, so we kicked off early with the outdoor greenery before it gets even warmer. Kana and Shu looked effortlessly stylish in their elegant black suit and dress. During the shoot, I discovered they share a playful bond; Shu’s teasing elicited giggles from Kana, showcasing their fun-loving dynamic.

As the temperature soared, we retreated to the hotel. There, Kana & Shu slipped into their gorgeous Nyonya Kebaya and Malay sarung, seamlessly blending with the hotel’s ambiance and the old Heeren Street.

Thank you Kana & Shu again! It was a joy to capture their excitement and appreciation for Melaka’s rich cultural heritage!
