Celebrating Marissa & William at Peranakan Mansion

The wedding in Melaka was a beautiful celebration of Marissa & William, filled with warmth, laughter, and special moments. Each moment, from the traditions to the simple touches, felt personal and true to them as a couple.

Marissa & William are based in Australia, but their love story began in Melbourne, where they first met. William grew up in Sydney, while Marissa’s roots are in Melaka, with a rich Peranakan heritage on her mother’s side. The two of them are the kind of couple who make you feel instantly at ease — warm, kind, and always smiling. Earlier in the year, they had a simple wedding back home in Australia, and this Melaka celebration was a chance to gather with Marissa’s family and share in something a little more traditional.

We started the afternoon with portraits along Heeren Street — a quiet stretch of old shophouses with soft light and lovely textures. Marissa wore a stunning red Qun Kua, a traditional Chinese gown that’s been in her family for over 100 years, lovingly passed down from her great-grandmother. The golden dragon embroidery, front and back, shimmered gently as she walked. William was dressed in a matching Chinese Tang suit, and together, they looked beautifully timeless against the charm of the street.

The tea ceremony was held just before dinner, inside Peranakan Mansion, the same venue where the reception would take place later that evening. With family gathered close, Marissa & William served tea, shared laughs, and exchanged warm words with their elders. The atmosphere was relaxed and full of affection — a mix of tradition and light-hearted joy that suited them perfectly.

As the sun dipped lower, guests began arriving for dinner. Many of the ladies wore colorful Kebayas, adding to the festive feel of the evening. Marissa changed into a modern red dinner dress, and William into a classic suit. It was a seamless transition from tradition to celebration.

Dinner at Peranakan Mansion was a true highlight. The venue, known for its authentic Peranakan cuisine, was warm and inviting, the perfect backdrop for a night of good food and even better company. Marissa’s cousins, Deborah & Robert, took the mic as emcees, keeping the energy light and playful throughout the evening.

The speeches were another beautiful part of the night. Marissa and William’s parents, William’s sister, and the couple themselves all shared heartfelt words. There were happy tears, big laughs, and many moments that felt genuine and full of love. It was clear how deeply they are cherished by everyone in the room.

Before I packed up for the night, William invited me to stay for a drink. It was such a thoughtful gesture — a reminder of just how kind and generous these two are.

Marissa & William’s wedding was a perfect mix of tradition, joy, and warmth. It wasn’t about big displays or flashy moments, but rather about celebrating the people they love and the life they’ve built together. I feel so lucky to have been there to capture such a special day.

Congratulations again, Marissa & William. Thank you for letting me be part of your beautiful celebration.
