23 Aug Celebrating Ben & Shyan
Ben & Shyan are such a cool couple to be around.
I first met Ben the Aussie when he came to Melaka and chilled at the little old Chinese liquor shop in Kampung Jawa.
‘Geez, this guy looks like Matt Damon.’
Later on his wedding dinner, Sam the groomsman’s speech revealed that everyone does think he looks like Matt Damon.
Ben & Shyan held a mix culture celebration together in Melaka, the hometown of Shyan.
They were wed in the Chinese traditional fashion in the morning of their wedding. Ben was wearing a red Changshan and Shyan was in a gold thread embroidery Chinese Kua. He and his two groomsmen from Australia had to go through the gate-crashing games to win his bride from the bridesmaids as part of Chinese weddings’ tradition, then learned to serve tea and greet the elders from both families as respect.
They had it otherwise in the afternoon, the Australia style at the Casa del Rio Hotel Melaka. Shyan in her elegant white dress walked down with her dad to the arch, where Ben in a nice fitted suit was waiting by the fountain side, and their solemnisation was performed.
Dinner party started right after the solemnisation. Ben sang Shyan’s favourite song for her after his speech, and performed a flash mob dance to surprise her and the guests. That evening ended late, very late, with lots of beers, laughter, dances, games, more laughter, and so much love.
It was such a pleasure to be a part of Ben & Shyan’s beautiful celebration, where the east met west. Thanks with all my heart!
