04 May Celebrating Cynthia & Chee Guan – embracing the rain at De Villa
As I age, I find myself becoming more forgetful. Yet, through blogging, I’m able to vividly recall the joyous, wild, sweet, and emotional weddings I’ve had the privilege to cover. Though my memory may fail me at times, one wedding that remains etched in my mind is Cynthia and Chee Guan’s—a celebration that was both touching and heartfelt.
Held at De Villa in Limbongan, Melaka, the wedding was a blend of cultures and love stories. Despite Cynthia being from Melaka and Chee Guan from Johor, and their current residence in KL, they chose to tie the knot in Jenny’s hometown.
It was year end and we were expecting some rain in the evening; however, the weather on the afternoon of the ceremony was favorable, setting the stage for a beautiful tea ceremony. Cynthia looked radiant in a stunning yellow Kebaya, while Chee Guan exuded charm in his smart casual attire. Even the tea ceremony was filled with touching moments, bringing tears of joy to the eyes of many relatives.
After the tea ceremony, as Chee Guan welcomed guests into the beautifully decorated garden of De Villa, and Cynthia slipped into her second outfit—a gorgeous gown—dark clouds began to gather in the distance. CY, the wedding planner, and Chee Guan braced themselves for the possibility of rain, fearing they may have to continue the festivities under umbrellas. It began to rain as soon as the buffet started.
Fortunately, the rain didn’t persist; instead, it gradually lightened until it almost ceased altogether, with only a slight delay to the scheduled march-in. It seemed the Chinese superstition of placing chili and garlic around the premises to prevent rain had worked its magic.
As the Cynthia & Chee Guan marched in, surrounded by friends and relatives holding beautiful sparklers, the light rain added a surreal touch to the scene. Despite the drizzle, spirits remained high, and laughter filled the air as guests, slightly damp from the rain, joined in the joyous celebration.
During the reception, friends who could not make it to the wedding surprised Cynthia & Chee Guan with a heartfelt video message, offering blessings from afar. Then, Cynthia’s brother took the spotlight, presenting a moving slideshow of their childhood memories and delivering a song dedicated to her. It was a moment that moved everyone to tears.
The evening wrapped up with lively dancing. Cynthia & Chee Guan, thank you for allowing me to be part of your special day—an evening filled with love, surprises, and unforgettable memories. Let the photos speak!
